Safety Week 2017: We Are Stronger and Safer Together

Dear Stakeholder:

Across the nation the construction industry and its partners are celebrating Safety Week, running this year from Monday, May 1st to Friday, May 5th.

“Safety Week is a chance to show our industry and our community the commitment we have to safety,” said Brian Roll, Granite Construction SouthEast Connector Project Manager.

Granite Construction is a leader in safety where they conduct not only weekly, but daily safety meetings, and each employee must undergo a job specific safety training that integrates safety measures into every aspect of the project. Daily jobsite inspections are also conducted to reduce the chance of injuries or incidents.

In honor of Safety Week and to thank the entire Project Team for their dedication to safety, a jobsite BBQ was held Friday in celebration.

Multi-use Path Receives Pavement

The 10-foot multi-use path that runs parallel to the SEC roadway was paved this week between Clean Water Way and Pembroke Drive. Once completed, the path will run along the eastern side of the roadway from South Meadows Parkway to Alexander Lake Road, where it will then pass under the new Huffaker Narrows Bridge and continue along the western side of the roadway for the remainder of its length. The path will also include pedestrian “rest areas” with benches and trash receptacles at various locations along its length. Although the path is  being paved, it will not be open to the public until the entire project is complete in spring 2018.
