Steamboat Creek Receives a Healthy Realignment on SouthEast Connector Project

Dear Stakeholder:

The SouthEast Connector project team carefully realigned Steamboat Creek at Mira Loma Drive as part of the project’s design. More than 500 feet of the creek, which was spread out into a marshland, was realigned. The new alignment is not only necessary for construction of the roadway, but it also benefits the community and environment.

The new alignment has gradually sloped banks which allows water to flow better, and creates a route for water to travel during the event of a flood. The project team will also be reconstructing wetlands in the area to compliment the new alignment of the creek that will restore environmental resources and provide protection for wildlife.

This portion of Steamboat Creek is one of three areas along the waterway that will be permanently realigned. Other areas include a section near Alexander Lake Road and a section north of South Meadows Parkway.
