Huffaker Bridge Progresses

Looking south at construction of the underside of the Huffaker Bridge.

Dear Stakeholder:

Crews have been at work constructing the Huffaker Bridge, and to show progress, the project team has created a flyover time-lapse video of bridge construction. The Huffaker Bridge is unique as it lies within a pinch-point between Rattlesnake Mountain and the Virginia Foothills, so it is designed extra-long to allow flood waters to spread out and reach the creek’s natural floodplain. Other interesting facts about the bridge include:

  • At 517-feet-long, it is the largest bridge being built on Phase 2 of the project.
  • Wire cables located inside the girders provide structural reinforcement that absorb the weight of the bridge.
  • Northbound and southbound lanes are constructed as two separate bridges that run side-by-side to allow sunlight in making driving underneath the structure brighter and safer.

Watch the Huffaker Bridge time-lapse on the ‘Videos’ page on the project website here. You can also subscribe to the SouthEast Connector Project and RTC Washoe channels on YouTube.
