Decorative Rock Placed in Segment Four

Dear Stakeholder:

Rock mulch was placed in the center medians of the roadway this week in Segment 4, the area between Clean Water Way and Pembroke Drive. The rock mulch is used as a fill for the medians, but will also serve as an aesthetic feature to the project. Multiple types of rock mulch, different sizes and colors, will be strategically placed in the center medians to replicate the flow of a river in a “wave” pattern.

The median accent pattern was selected by the project’s Community Working Group (CWG). The CWG was comprised of a diverse group of citizens representing community-wide organizations and neighborhoods to develop community-based decisions on the project throughout the design process.

Median widths range from 4 to 14 feet where the decorative rock will be used. Rock mulch will also be placed in various locations on the sides of the roadway. All aesthetic treatments to the project were specifically chosen by the CWG to blend with the surrounding environment.
