SouthEast Connector Team Visits Van Gorder Elementary

Dear Stakeholder:

The SouthEast Connector Project Team partnered with Van Gorder Elementary School 4th grade teachers to provide an educational presentation to students. In Washoe County, the 4th grade curriculum for Social Studies involves learning about Nevada both historically and today.

“We have been discussing erosion and freeze thaw and the role it plays in our streets. We also have a unit on current events in Nevada and it includes the SouthEast Connector,” said 4th Grade Teacher Angie Lewis.

As the students were familiar with the overall project, Garth Oksol, RTC Project Manager, and Brian Roll, Granite Construction Project Manager, explained more in-depth project features including the new 80-acre polishing wetlands complex and how it will help benefit our community by providing naturally filtered water into the Truckee River.

RTC Project Manager, Garth Oksol, describes the newly built wetlands complex to a group of 4th grade students at Van Gorder Elementary School.
