National Work Zone Awareness Week
As part of National Work Zone Awareness Week, which takes place April 3-7, 2017, the Regional Transportation Commission and Granite Construction are reminding the public to commute safely through all work zones.
On the SouthEast Connector Project, please pay attention to truck crossings with flagger control at both Pembroke Drive and Mira Loma Drive as construction vehicles and equipment cross these streets to access the jobsite.
“We want everyone to make it home safely,” said RTC Project Manager Garth Oksol. “Work zones are engineered with safety in mind, so if everyone does their part, they are helping maintain a safe zone”.
The project team offers the following tips for drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians who commute through a work zone:
Drivers: Stay alert and proceed safely when you see orange construction signs. Be patient and prepare for any unexpected conditions such as new traffic patterns, lane closures or detours.
Cyclists: Ride defensively and always ride with traffic so drivers can see you and predict your movements; obey all work zone and traffic signs and signals.
Pedestrians: Obey all work zone signs and personnel, and never walk through the construction site.
